This research provides evidence of the diagnostic and autoregulator functions of the metaevaluation in didactic design of formative evaluation. The two collective-case studies shown in this paper, which have been developed by Primary and Secondary Physical Education teachers, have used a didactic metaevaluation tool that gathers five features of the formative evaluation. The use of this tool has enabled the teachers to identify the formative weaknesses and strengths of their evaluation methods and to start an oriented process of change in their teaching intervention. The execution of a replica of the collective-case studies under the same methodological design around the metaevaluation has also enabled them to check the high grade of self-diagnostic capacity of the metaevaluation tool.
