Émile Durkheim is a key figure in the institutionalization of Sociology as an academic and scientific discipline in the 19th century. Through the positivist research methodology that he exposes in his work The Rules of the Sociological Method, he later explains in El Suicidio that autolysis is related to social causes explained through the so-called “social facts.” The main claim of this document is a critical and reflective review of the work El Suicidio, especially its second book with the support of current bibliography. The four types of suicide according to Durkheim are described. Today, economic and/or social factors must be addressed to understand and address the growth in the suicide rate in the current post-pandemic context; economic or social factors must not be left aside to continue addressing the problem suicide and mental health in general.
