Abstract

Introduction: People with spinal cord injury (SCI) suffer from many comorbidities due to a sedentary lifestyle. Current scientific evidence suggests that increasing physical activity levels in these people would reduce morbidity and improve their quality of life and independence. However, current guidelines suggest exercise intensities that are considered inadequate compared to a population without pathology. Objectives: To develop a high-intensity exercise programme to improve functionality and reduce specific risk factors in people with spinal cord injury. Methods: An exercise programme for chronic SCI is presented that requires 2 groups (experimental and control). The experimental group will perform a programme of Strength, Aerobic and Trunk Stabilising Muscle Control, 3 times a week for 6 months, while the control group will receive educational talks on the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits
