Resumo

Crime fiction is known for its social critique, which is a product of the evolution of the different models from the hard-boiled sub-genre. During the Spanish transition to democracy, hard-boiled crime fiction was adapt-ed as a countercultural discourse against the insufficient political, eco-nomic, and social changes. Since then, new problems have developed in Spain, and early in the 21st century immigration has risen as a primary example. Antonio Lozano was an author who addressed this issue through crime fiction. In this work, we will analyze Lozano’s complaint about the conditions of African migrants in Spain in the novels Harraga and Donde mueren los ríos, emphasizing critical elements that continue to prevail in recent crime fiction.
