F. de Sande is an associate professor and senior researcher in the Department of Computer and Systems Engineering at the University of La Laguna (ULL). He holds a degree in Physics from the Complutense University of Madrid (1987). He obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the ULL in 1998. In 1990, he joined the Parallel Computing Group at the ULL, initially as a lecturer and, since 2002, as an associate professor. Since the outset of his career in 1990, his research has focused on the field of High-Performance Computing (HPC). In this field, he has published some 30 papers, including both articles in JCR-indexed journals and papers presented at leading conferences (EuroPar, Euromicro, EuroPVM/MPI), which are the most significant platforms for disseminating high-quality research in this field. He has been the principal investigator on a project under the National Programme for Scientific and Technological Infrastructures, three research projects funded through competitive calls for proposals by the Government of the Canary Islands, and two research projects funded by the University of La Laguna. From 1998 to the present day, he has participated continuously as a collaborating researcher in six projects under the National Plan. Several of these projects have been coordinated with other Spanish universities, and their implementation has led to collaborations with other research groups as well as an exchange of visits to other research centres. These collaborations have resulted in both joint publications and participation in thematic networks. Between 2005 and 2020, he was head of the Research IT Support Service at the University of La Laguna. He is a member of the High-Performance Computing Research Group, and his current research interests include: the development and application of directive-based languages for GPGPU, the design and implementation of languages for CAP, libraries and programming frameworks, as well as the parallelisation of scientific applications.
