Doctor by the Universidad de La Laguna with the thesis Determinación de uno y varios tipos de gérmenes diferenciables 1991. Supervised by Dr. Juan Margalef Roig.
I am a Geometry and Topology professor at the University of La Laguna since 1993. My area of research focuses in Geometric Mechanics, which analyzes the geometry underlying different physical systems. I am the author of several research papers in this topic and the member of the Spanish research network "Geometry, Mechanics and Control". I am the first president of the Committee "Women and Mathematics" of the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society, from 2005 to 2009 and coordinator of the outreach project "Woman as an innovative element in Science". Author of the biography "Emmy Noether". She has been a participant of the book "Mujeres Matemáticas. 13 matemáticas, 13 espejos" with the chapter "Tomando un té con Emmy". I am the coordinator of the mathematics outreach cultural association MATDIVULL (http://matdivu.webs.ull.es/), which has been awarded with the educational innovation prize from the Social Council of the ULL in 2019 and of the activity "Un Fisquito de Matemáticas" (http://matdivu.webs.ull.es/un-fisquito/). I was the curator (together with Silvia Molero) of the Exposition "We women make science" (http://bbtk.exposicion.ull.es/mujeryciencia/). I have delivered several outreach courses aimed at university students such as “Dialoguing with Mathematics", “Math, action!” or “Cooking with Mathematics”. I have been one of the promoters, together with several mathematical disclosers from Spain, the mathematics outreach network DiMa http://dima.icmat.es/.
