Doctor by the Universidad de La Laguna with the thesis Alternativas plásticas a la elaboración de imágenes por medio del offset y a través de la expresión gráfica directa y el color 1993. Supervised by Dr. José María Herrero Gómez.

Atilio Doreste (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1964) is a visual and sound artist, interdisciplinary researcher, and Tenured Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of La Laguna. For over three decades, his artistic and research practice has explored the intersections of art, landscape, and critical thought, with a particular focus on phonography, dérive, experimental publishing, and site-specific creation. He leads the research group Taller de Acciones Creativas (TAC) and the Auriculab Sound Art Laboratory, and coordinates projects such as the Sound Map of the Canary Islands (SONAR:CC), the Canary Islands Editorial Laboratory, and the experimental space Auditorio 15 Sillas, all dedicated to creation, research, and cultural transfer. His sound works have been published on international platforms and netlabels such as Audiotalaia, Sonic Terrain, Green Field Recordings, La Escucha Atenta, Mute Sound Records, and Very Quiet Records. He has exhibited in renowned festivals and art centers including the Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), Goldsmiths University (London), EMS Elektronmusik (Stockholm), Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM), and TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes. He has participated in artist residencies across Spain and internationally (Scarpia Córdoba, Sonic Waterloo London, VICC Visby, Eufònic Lo Pati, Sound Diaries Oxford), and in international festivals such as Audiosfera (Museo Reina Sofía), Spread Spectrum (Moscow), Artisti in Piazza (Italy), and Fotonoviembre (Tenerife). He holds three recognized research periods (sexenios) and has a strong track record supervising undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral projects. He has led and contributed to numerous nationally and internationally funded R&D projects, collaborating with institutions in the UK, Sweden, Portugal, Italy, Germany, and Mexico. In teaching, he has coordinated doctoral and master’s programs and designed international workshops on landscape, art, and phonography, promoting interdisciplinary methodologies that link art, territory, and acoustic ecology.
