Resumen

This research was carried out with a clinical sample. The participants were drug addicts undergoing treatment at the Day Center "Cercado del Marqués". Center belonging to the resources of the attention of drug addiction of the ONG ACJ SAN MIGUEL,in Tenerife. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the effectiveness of training programs in Social Competences. At this application was with clinical drug addicts. The trainning programme is based on the original "R & R" from Ross and Fabiano, introduced in Spain, adapted and applied to Spanish prison population by Dr. Garrido titled Prosocial Thought Program. Was adapted for the educational frame, and has been used in preventive context, in the Canaries Islands by Dr. Segura Morales (Program of Social Competence). We carry out a quasi-experimental design, with measures before and after the implementation of the Program in the sample under study. As a criterion for success in the implementation of the Social Competence Training programme, we have the use of cognitive dimensions of Thoughts: Alternative (PA), Causal (PCA), Consequential (PCO), Taking Perspective (TDP) and Means - End (PMF). To measure the effectiveness of the program in relation to the change of use of the five thoughts described by Spivack and Shure, group(1976), was used the tests Interpersonal Skills (1989), developed by Dr. Juan Manuel Bethencourt, in short version. A instrument extract out from Interpersonal Skills Questionaries of Pelechano, and based above the model of the original group of Spivack and Shure (1976). The total sample (n=235) was in two groups divided: Control subjects (n=177), and Experimental subjects (n=58), 44 of them were drug addicts into treatment. We used specific program for training in Social Competence, consisting of 28 meetings. We used statistical analysis: comparation of mean, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and statistical test of mean of samples relationated. The results point to an improvement in the overall use of the five thoughts on the part of those addicts who participated in the training program, as well as statistically significant differences in the measures before-after for the experimental group in each of the items in each test.
