Abstract
In this work we demonstrate that José de Anchieta founded the Brazilian indigenism, in other words, the defence of the rights of the Indians of Brazil against the abuses of the colonial system, that only the existence of a slave labor he saw in the Indian. It is true that Anchieta not reported explicitly to the colonial system and demanded a special for the Indian legislation, but through their letters can be understood that he advised a change of the attitude of the Crown on the indigenous issue, which eventually succeeded with the legal provisions adopted under the reign of Felipe II.
