Zusammenfassung

The purpose of this study was to investigate the underlying factors of reading readiness tests and their predictive value for the success in literacy acquisition. A longitudinal study was carried out on a sample of 60 children from primary state schools in the Canary Islands at the time when they were beginning to learn to read and write. In an initial phase of the study, reading readiness factors were found to be four: Linguistic, Visuo-Spatial Organization, Conceptual Organization, and Reproductive Memory. When these factors were related to the results on literacy acquisition from the longitudinal sample, it was found that the best predictors of success in learning to read and write were: Linguistic and Conceptual Organization; while Visual-Spatial Organization and Reproductive Memory were of low predictive value
