Résumé
This paper makes a description of the evolution of the dialectological studies concerned with the spoken variety of Canarian Spanish. Within this, it is necessary to point out the importance of the publication of the Atlas Lingüístico y Etnográfico de las Islas Canarias, whose first volume (1975) appeared more than twenty years ago. In this study a bibliographical review of the studies that served as foundations for the ALEICan is also provided.
