Abstract

This research is framed within the context of a naturalistic decision-making approach.Specifically, our objectives were: first, to evaluate how people generate a decision-actionprocess in a task; second, to identify if some characteristics related with naturalistic decision-making are present in the study participants; and third, to examine the influence of verbaland spatial aptitudes. For these objectives, a patient temperature regulation system was selectedas the simulated task that measured body temperature, blood pressure and red blood cellcount. We took into account the characteristics of complex environments. Performance simulated task was evaluated in seventy-seven participants selected from scores obtained from verbal comprehension and visualization tests. The results indicate some characteristics of a succesful performance such as the importance of information searches; the taking into account of delays in the effects of the actions; the anticipation of possible system changes. However, our results only indicate some relationships between spatial aptitude and task simulated performances.
