Abstract
Non-university teaching is one of the most feminised among qualified jobs, although that is not the case with higher education. The attempts to account for and characterise both phenomena have been diverse in the field of the Sociology of Education —in particular those that the Sociology of Professions has carried out in relation to the teaching staff. However approaches have very hardly been from a perspective of gender. Centered on the optics of feminist criticism, this paper analyses the consequences of the presence of women in the teaching staff. It likewise combines the attempt at theoretical systematization with the empirical study of some of the problems that theory illustrates in a concrete space/ framework, the situation of women teachers at the University of La Laguna.
