Abstract
The aim of this paper is to reveal the literary preferences of Aldrete in the field of Greek and Latin poetry. This is done by analysing the Classical sources in his work Del origen, y principio de la lengua castellana o romance que oi se usa en España. This author had a wide knowledge of Latin and Greek and his choices of poetical resources for his work allow us to determine which were his favourite authors and poetical works when he intended to provide examples for his linguistic ideas.
