Abstract

The development of Astronomy in the Middle Ages is closely intertwined with the interests of the Church; simultaneously, the evolution of Arithmetics depends upon the progressive needs of Astronomy. Both the arithmetical and the astronomical knowledge were essential for the reckoning of the ecclesiastical calendar. Reckoning became the science devoted to the calculation of time and the confection of calendars in the Middle Ages, and for such tasks it was neccesary to resort to other sciences, especially Astronomy and Arithmetics.
