Abstract

In this article, we analyze the representation of men and women in advertisements in Spanish newspapers. We performed a content analysis of 855 advertisements found in 24 editions of a national daily with wide circulation. The number of articles the men and women appeared in was found to be very unequal, with women appearing in fewer than men. We also found gender stereotypes in the roles played and the products with which the men and women were associated.
