Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the male elegance and the dandisme in the Canarian Art, from 19th century until 1950’s. The external influences of the Archipelago create an extraordinary aesthetical syncretism that can be perceived in men’s fashion associated to the dandy. Canarian Artist reflects in their portraits the British and French aesthetics of dandisme, that the local elite uses for its legitimacy and power, until the decadence of tourism and the consecuences of the First World War. This new period generated an evolution of dandyism associated with the culture of Modernism in the decade of the 30’s.
