Resumen

We present in this paper a preliminary approximation of thesocioecological dynamics of the last hunter-gatherers in MediterraneanIberia based on summed C14 densities from multiples sites. We focus thediscussion on understanding the nature of human responses to climatechanges in terms of population trends. Simultaneously, we argue that acritical review of the dated samples and their archaeological contexts isnecessary prior to using these data. We then present a method to improvethe quality of C14 data obtained from intrasite stratigraphic contexts usingseveral filters. The application of the most rigorous filtering of the datacombined with a Bayesian sequential model approach allows us to build aprobable chronological model rooted in the known archaeological phases.Despite the limitations of the method (largely related to the reducedamounts of data for estimating the length of the oldest phases and fordefining their limits), we consider its effectiveness at minimising commonnoise that often affects such samples. These methodological approachesserve as the framework for discussing trends in population dynamics interms of long-term socioecological responses.
