Abstract

This paper addresses a brief overview of the contributions that the research project entitled «Bodies, objects and spaces. Convergent deaths, divergent deaths», has made to the knowledge of the pre-Hispanic population of Gran Canaria. From the characterization of the funerary manifestations and the evaluation of the available radiocarbon dates, an approach to the historical development of the ancient Canarians is addressed, identifying moments of change that mark their evolution. The study of the different sepulchral categories has also allowed to document funeral gestures that deepen the construction and reproduction of the identities and the social structure in force at every moment. In addition, the project seeks to highlight the historical value of the archaeological records that, preserved in El Museo Canario, were recovered in the past, and to underline the role that entity’s archive has for the memory of such archaeological testimonies.
