Abstract
Magnetic separations utilize an extraction material with paramagnetic properties, permitting them to be controlled under a magnetic field and contributing to asimplification of the sample preparation step. Ionic liquids represent an alternativeclass of solvents to conventional extraction materials, which may be toxic and possesslimited selectivity or extraction efficiency. Several studies have proposed the use ofionic liquids in magnetic-assisted microextraction procedures. In some cases, the ionicliquid is combined with other materials such as magnetic nanoparticles, generatinga hybrid material able to be used in magnetic-assisted procedures. In other cases, magnetic ionic liquids, which possess inherit magnetism, are directly used as magneticextraction materials. This review provides an overview of these two possibilitiestowards magnetic-assisted extraction procedures
