Abstract

This work focuses on the process of tourist image creation in a small town ofTenerife, located in a protected area (the Rural Park of Teno) and visited for more thanhalf million tourists per year. Crossing quantitative (analysis of questionnaires totourists) and qualitative (analysis of promotional material generated by different agentsinvolved in the commercialization of the town as a destination, participant observation, informal conversations and interviews with the local people, the environmentalmanagers and the entrepreneurs of the protected area) techniques, we present somereflections about the conflicts and affinities between the different agents responsible forgenerating tourist image discourses and its relationship with the final image perceptionof the tourists.
