Abstract

Introduction: Home care in the field of palliative care is a complex and extensive fact. Today there are margins for improvement in end-of-life care in the community in terms of coordination and communication between primary care and hospital care. Likewise, improvements in the training of nurses are necessary, in addition to adapting their care loads. Objective: to identify the difficulties encountered by primary care nurses in the basic health area of Tacoronte and Ofra (Tenerife, Spain). Material and methods: A descriptive phenomenological qualitative study is proposed. Fourteen nurses from both basic health areas were randomly selected. The following categories were obtained: improvement margins; communication; training; time management and family coping. Conclusions: There is an evident lack of care time so that nurses can give quality and more human care to the patient at the end of his life at home, in addition to the fact that training in end-of-life care must be improved and the care circuit between Primary Care and Hospital Care, especially with palliative care units.
