Zusammenfassung

This paper presents a study on the solutions of future Mathematics teachers to an open-ended problem. They had to find lines with two intersection points to a given parabola. The analysis focuses on two aspects of the resolutions. On the one hand, the strategy chosen: if they tried to find general conditions for all the possible solution lines or if, on the contrary, they tried to find solutions of particular lines. On the other hand, we analysed if they used the graphical representation of the parabola or if they only included algebraic representations. The main results show that most of the participants obtain particular solutions, and, for this, they rely on the graphic representation of the parabola. They also show that they present difficulties in finding a general expression for the lines that are solutions of the problem.
