José Manuel Viera González holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism from the University of La Laguna, where he received the Extraordinary Award for Academic Excellence and the José Luis Moreno Becerra Award for the best Final Degree Project. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Tourism Management and Planning from the same university, distinguished with the Extraordinary Award for Master’s Studies, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Applied Research in Social Sciences. He is a predoctoral researcher at the Department of Applied Economics and Quantitative Methods at the University of La Laguna, where he is developing his doctoral thesis on the spatio-temporal concentration of tourism at the local destination scale (microdestinations), under the supervision of Dr Raúl Hernández Martín, within the Interuniversity PhD Programme in Tourism. He is funded by a predoctoral research grant awarded by the Government of the Canary Islands, combining research and teaching duties. His research career includes experience as a research technician and as a member of the Canary Islands Tourism Observatory, part of the International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO) of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). He is also a member of the CajaCanarias-Ashotel Tourism Chair at the University of La Laguna and has collaborated on competitive research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Tourism and the Government of the Canary Islands, as well as on studies developed for various island and local institutions. José Manuel has published in high-impact scientific journals, contributed to book chapters and scientific-technical reports, and presented papers at national and international conferences. His work combines applied tourism analysis with data processing and modelling, with expertise in ETL processes, geospatial data analysis, programming, and automation.
