The candidate possesses a highly multidisciplinary research trajectory, holding a BSc in Physics, a doctorate program in Astrophysics from the University of La Laguna (ULL), and a PhD in Coordination Chemistry and Molecular Magnetism. Currently focusing on sample preparation devices for Analytical Chemistry, the researcher holds a Senior Excellence contract from Caixa-CajaCanarias at ULL (since 2021), the R3 certification (2023 call), and the ANECA certification for Profesor Titular (2024). Over their career, they have co-authored 139 scientific publications across molecular magnetism, analytical chemistry, crystal engineering, and organic chemistry, achieving an h-index of 47. Crystallography serves as their core enabling skill, which they have taught in the UIMP Master in Crystallography and Crystallization, the Spanish School on Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction, and specialized courses at the University of Concepción in Chile. From their PhD up to 2013, their primary focus was molecular magnetism and crystal engineering, contributing notable works on ferromagnetic copper(II) compounds (Polyhedron 2003, 124 citations) and magnetic property manipulation (CrystEngComm 2007, 99 citations), while serving as chief staff of the magnetic measurements service at SEGAI-ULL. In 2014, they pivoted toward implementing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in analytical methodologies, pioneering the field (Talanta 2015, 165 citations) and co-founding the MAT4LL group with Prof. Verónica Pino. Their current lines explore sorbent adsorption/desorption mechanisms in MOFs (Talanta 2018, 56 citations) and their application in microextraction (Adv. Func. Mat. 2024). In terms of research funding and leadership, the candidate has contributed to designing and writing 13 projects from MAT2004 to PDC2021, attracting over €1 million to ULL. They served as Principal Investigator (PI) for a subproject in the 2010 Spanish R&D Plan and led a Long-Term Project at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF, 2009–2012), alongside securing proposals as PI at major facilities like DIAMOND, SOLEIL, ALBA, and the ILL. They maintain strong collaborations with ICMol (Univ. Valencia), ILL (Grenoble), Univ. Concepción, and TU Dresden, while participating in Spanish networks (La Factoría, InSamPr) and the European EuChemS-DAC Sample Prep. An active member of RSEQ, RSEF, ECA, and former board member of GE3C (2010–2019), they received the Sagrario Martínez Carrera – PARALAB award in 2024. Regarding technology transfer and dissemination, they led a 2017 industrial/research contract with Tagua SL and Cabildo de Tenerife, resulting in a patent for MOF-based stationary phases for solid-phase microextraction. This patent underwent PCT extension in 2020, was licensed to Teknokroma Analítica SL in 2021, and is protected in Europe and the USA. A second patent on a sample preparation device was filed in 2021, forming the basis of a Proof-of-Concept project. Their outreach work includes participating in Macaronight and local science fairs, directing the 2014 Tenerife crystal growth competition, presiding over the organization of the 2016 Meeting of the Italian and Spanish Crystallographic Associations, and serving on the Extech2023 organizing committee. In mentoring and editorial capacity, the candidate has supervised 5 completed PhD theses—with graduates moving on to institutions like the ILL, SEGAI-ULL, Univ. Santiago, and industry—and is co-supervising 3 ongoing doctorates alongside several Master and undergraduate projects. They act as Academic Editor for Nanomaterials, co-edited an Elsevier book on MOFs in analytical chemistry, and review project proposals for the Swiss National Foundation and the Poland National Science Centre, as well as manuscripts for journals such as JACS, Nature Communications, and Chemical Communications.
