Abstract

In the basis of European educational convergence in which the importance of training for a job and developing an active citizenship attitude have become essential issues in universities, the concepts related to solidarity, social contribution and community services have also become more important in the educational policies of the past decade. This paper aims to look into the results obtained by a concrete pedagogical experience within the optional subject The image in media and the contribution that students can make to society while they studying at University. Encouraging students to become socially involved was also an objective, as well as developing a critical spirit being in touch with the reality in which they are immersed. This experience explores the results obtained by a specific pedagogical experience developed during the third year of the journalism studies, within the optional subject The Image in Journalism. The experience reveals the role that journalism students play in society and the contribution they can make while they are studineg at University. We can affirm that the learning of services system applied to the teaching of Social Communication contributes to develop and approach to cognitive and ethical dimension of the person, improving the educational quality and favoring the social inclusion of students, what is part of the social responsibility of universities.
