Supervised by Dr. Robert Sala Ramos, Dr. Bertila Galván Santos, Dr. Alfred Sanchis Serra.

His research trajectory spans more than ten years, during which he has achieved successive positive evaluations for grants and contracts in competitive calls. These accomplishments have supported the development of his main research line, focused on understanding the subsistence dynamics of Upper Pleistocene prehistoric groups, such as Neanderthals and Anatomically Modern Humans. His approach emphasizes the interaction of these groups with macromammal animal communities in various regions of the Iberian Peninsula. Over the years, Leopoldo Pérez has worked in several scientific institutions, supported by grants and research contracts. His career includes being a collaboration scholar in 2011-12 at the University of La Laguna, an FPU contract holder from 2014 at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, as well as a beneficiary of postdoctoral programs such as JdC-Formación in 2019, APOSTD in 2020, and CIPROM in 2023, linked to the Universitat de València, culminating in his recent appointment as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of La Laguna, funded by La Caixa and Cajacanarias Bank Foundations. Additionally, he has enhanced his training through predoctoral and postdoctoral research stays at national and international levels, visiting institutions such as the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in France, the Laboratoire Méditerranéen de Préhistoire Europe Afrique of Aix-Marseille Université, also in France, the Servei d'Investigació Prehistòrica at the Museu de Prehistòria de València, the University of Oviedo, and the Anatomical Museum of the University of Valladolid in Spain. As a result of these experiences, he has established a significant network of contacts and fostered collaborations in R&D&I projects and research groups at both national and international levels. In this context, his research has resulted in nearly thirty scientific publications, most of them indexed in prestigious repositories and aligned with Open Science principles. Furthermore, he has presented at approximately the same number of scientific conferences at national and international levels. All these contributions are dedicated to the study of various faunal assemblages of anthropic and natural origin from the Upper Pleistocene located in the Mediterranean region of the Iberian Peninsula. Notable examples include renowned sites such as El Salt, Abric del Pastor, Cova de l’Hort de Cortés-Volcán del Faro, Les Coves de Santa Maira, Cova Foradada de Xàbia, and in the Cantabrian region, specifically Llonín Cave, whose cultural attribution falls within the Middle and Upper Paleolithic. Simultaneously, he has explored various research areas through collaborations with teams in Paleontology and other more distant fields, such as technological development and teaching methodologies applicable to his discipline. Moreover, his involvement in several internationally renowned archaeological complexes, participation as a member of scientific and organizing committees at conferences, role as a reviewer for articles in indexed journals, engagement in workshops, exhibitions, and museum activities aimed at disseminating scientific knowledge, combined with extensive teaching work and mentoring of young researchers, comprehensively round out his academic profile.
