His research has focused mainly on three areas: microeconomic models of time allocation, econometric models of discrete choice and economic valuation of non-market goods. In 2006 he received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in Social Sciences from the University of La Laguna. Subsequently, he has deepened his knowledge and application of stated preference techniques, collaborating in the development of discrete choice experiments aimed at revealing the preferences of users of transportation systems, electricity consumers and visitors to national parks, obtaining in his studies estimates of the monetary value of travel time savings, the value of statistical life and the monetary value of the use of renewable sources in electricity generation. He is the author of a dozen publications, including several publications in high impact journals in the areas of Economics and Transportation such as Energy Economics, Transportation or Transport Policy. His current research focuses on the cost-benefit analysis of the Spanish high-speed rail network and the economic valuation of ecosystem services from discrete choice experiments of stated preferences.
