Doctor by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the thesis Interacciones moleculares en la transferencia conjuntuiva del plásmido pMV158 2009. Supervised by Dr. Manuel Espinosa Padrón.
Fabián Lorenzo Díaz studied Biology (1996-2001) at the University of La Laguna (ULL). In 2009 defended his doctoral thesis at the Complutense University of Madrid, working on molecular mechanisms of horizontal gene transfer. He has worked in different international research groups: Instituto de Biología Molecular de Rosario (Argentina, 2006); Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore-USA, 2007); and Institute ZIK-Septomics (Germany, 2015). Since 2016, he is an assistant professor in the area of Genetics of the ULL, as well as academic deputy director of the Master in Biomedicine and scientific head of the Genomics Service at the ULL (SEGAI). In this period, he has gained experience in next-generation sequencing technologies (bacterial genomes, human exomes, transcriptome, and microbiome). Currently, he is involved in research projects aiming to analyze the role of the human microbiome and genetic variation in developing asthma and/or exacerbation processes in asthmatic patients.
