Sara
González Pérez

Dr. Sara González Pérez is currently the Director of Internationalization at the University of La Laguna (ULL) and a faculty member in the Department of Experimental Science Education. In addition, she is a collaborating researcher at the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics (IAC) and the Institute of Renewable Energy Technologies (ITER), and she serves as the coordinator of the Research Group on Innovation and Transfer in Specific Didactics at the University of La Laguna (INTRADE). During her doctoral studies, she specialized in the fabrication and characterization of nanocrystals with optical properties for technological and medical applications. Her PhD in Applied Physics received the highest grade (Summa Cum Laude) and was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in the field of Science. During her postdoctoral stage, she applied the knowledge she acquired during her doctorate to the fields of energy and sustainability, collaborating with scientific institutions such as the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, the Complutense University of Madrid, and ITER. In 2016, she began her teaching career at the University of La Laguna and, with it, her research line in the field of experimental science teaching (Didactics of Science). He is currently actively working in this line of research, without abandoning his activities in the field of experimental sciences and technology. During these years, he has developed numerous teaching innovation projects focused on the application of active methodologies to improve science learning and on incorporating gender perspectives and sustainability in STEAM areas. She has also participated in other multidisciplinary projects of educational innovation and social transfer, such as the inclusion of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the university curriculum and in all editions of the ULL's Canary Islands Biodiversity and Sustainability Conference, which includes initiatives for both higher education students and students in early childhood, primary, secondary, and high school education, with more than 1,500 people participating in its activities each year. Some of her research and teaching innovation projects are carried out in collaboration with the IAC, the Museum of Science and the Cosmos, the Cabildo of Tenerife, and the Planeta Ciencias association, to incorporate interdisciplinary educational projects, resources, and strategies into the teaching programs of schools in the Canary Islands. Together with his research group, he collaborates with several international universities and scientific institutions to develop and evaluate active methodologies and educational resources that promote motivation and skills among students and teachers in preschool and primary school. He is currently working on projects to raise awareness of climate change and biodiversity protection in education, to introduce space sciences and their applications into the curriculum, and to analyze the impact and improve the teaching-learning process through the incorporation of new teaching tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), among others. She has participated in more than a dozen national and European R&D&I projects. She has authored over 100 scientific publications, including high-impact (JCR) articles and conference contributions in Applied Sciences, Technology, and Science Education. In 2026, she won the Institutional Award for Innovation and Educational Transfer. In addition, she has supervised two doctoral theses and is currently supervising two others; she has completed two six-year research terms and holds accreditation as a Full Professor, both recognized and granted by the CNEAI, as well as a DOCENTIA and several awards for outreach and communication.
